Ms. Neiman was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina.  She graduated with a degree in Fine Arts at the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina and studied painting at the Fountainbleu School of Music and Art in France.  She has spent her life pursuing artistic and cultural endeavors from contemporary painting, photography, floral design and ceramic work.

After raising her family, her passion for collecting antiques led her to partner with a friend to operate an antique business in Chicago and Michigan. Summers at the family cottage in Sawyer, Michigan are still the go to for her children and grandchildren.   It is the place where she adopted a lovable stray kitten they named Simon.  Time there is spent jammin’ jam (the best on the planet) and pickling pickles which the coveted recipe will be in her will!

Weekend visits to a small family farm in Sawyer inspired the true story of Sophie, Myles and Isobella.  Those visits will remain loving memories for Ms. Neiman’s children and grandchildren. They are city kids who were exposed early on to all of the farm animals.  The hands-on contact taught them kindness, gentleness and respect for their new friends.

Gwen Neiman is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.

What the Cluck? was inspired by my love for nature’s awesome beauty and bounty. It has always given me joy and awareness that in the Spring, life in the earth returns. Never does it disappoint. It sprouts and buds and makes our souls blossom.
